Meta Ads in Egypt: A Practical Guide for Business Owners

Facebook and Instagram are where most Egyptian customers spend their time online, and Meta ads are how most brands here reach them. Running them well is a different story. This guide covers how Meta ads work, which campaign type fits which goal, what results look like in practice, and the mistakes that waste the most budget.

What are Meta ads?

Meta ads are paid ads that run across Meta’s apps: Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and the Audience Network of partner apps. You create and manage all of them from one place, Meta Ads Manager, with one budget and one set of reports.

You choose who sees the ad (location, age, interests, or people who already interacted with you), where it appears (Feed, Stories, Reels and more), and what you want people to do: send a message, fill in a form, visit your website or buy.

Choose the right campaign objective

The objective tells Meta what result to look for, and it is the most important choice you make. Meta will find the people most likely to take that action, so pick the action that actually leads to sales.

Objective Best for
Engagement → Messages Businesses that sell through WhatsApp, Messenger or Instagram DMs (fashion, jewelry, furniture, clinics, hotels)
Leads Services with a longer decision (real estate, B2B, education). Uses an instant form inside Facebook or your website form
Sales Online stores with a working Pixel that records purchases
Traffic Sending people to content. Rarely the right choice when you want sales
Awareness Launches and reach. Cheap impressions, no direct sales goal

In Egypt, many businesses do best with message campaigns: customers prefer to ask a question on WhatsApp before buying, and a good reply converts far better than a cold product page.

What results look like: real numbers

Costs depend on industry, offer, creative and season, so be careful with any “average price” you read online. Here are results from campaigns Maven ran for brands in Egypt between 2023 and 2024, straight from Ads Manager:

Industry Campaign type Result Cost per result
Fashion & apparel Messages 3,371 conversations EGP 4.70
Fashion & apparel Messages 1,948 conversations EGP 6.75
Jewelry Engagement (messages) 2,546 conversations EGP 4.26
Jewelry Messages 1,109 conversations EGP 11.01
Hotels & travel Messages 1,649 conversations EGP 5.88
B2B office furniture Leads 127 leads EGP 59.53
B2B office furniture Leads 86 leads EGP 41.30

Two things stand out. First, the same brand can see very different costs from one campaign to the next: the jewelry account ranged from EGP 4.26 to EGP 11.01 per conversation. Creative, offer and timing move the number as much as the budget does. Second, a B2B lead costs far more than a retail conversation, and that is fine, because one B2B deal is worth many retail orders. Always judge cost per result against what a customer is worth to you. Our guide to ROAS shows how to work that out.

How much budget do you need?

There is no fixed minimum that guarantees results, but there is a practical one: Meta needs enough results to learn who responds. As a rule of thumb, aim for a daily budget that can buy several results per day. If your conversations cost around EGP 6, a budget that buys only one or two a day will keep the campaign stuck in the learning phase.

Start with one or two well-built campaigns rather than many small ones. Spreading a small budget across ten ad sets gives none of them enough data.

Five mistakes that waste budget

  1. Boosting posts instead of using Ads Manager. The Boost button is quick but offers far less control over objective, audience and placements.
  2. Choosing Traffic or Engagement when you want sales. Meta delivers exactly what you ask for, which is clicks and likes from people who rarely buy.
  3. No Pixel or tracking. Without the Meta Pixel (and ideally the Conversions API), Meta can’t learn who your buyers are, and you can’t see which ads bring sales.
  4. Slow replies. A message campaign is only as good as the response time. A conversation that waits hours for a reply is often lost.
  5. Changing campaigns every day. Frequent edits reset learning. Give a campaign several days of stable delivery before judging it.

What makes a Meta ad work

  • A strong first three seconds. Most people decide in a moment whether to keep watching. Lead with the product, the result or the problem you solve.
  • Vertical video for Reels and Stories. Short, native-looking video usually beats polished horizontal footage.
  • One clear offer and one clear action. “Message us for the price” or “Book a free consultation” beats a list of everything you do.
  • Several creatives at once. Give Meta three to five variations and let the results pick the winner.
  • Language that fits the audience. Egyptian Arabic for a local audience, Modern Standard Arabic or English when you target the Gulf.

Should you run Meta ads yourself or hire an agency?

Running small campaigns yourself is a good way to learn. It makes sense to bring in a specialist when ads become a meaningful part of your sales, when results have stalled, or when you don’t have the time to test creatives and check numbers every day.
